Here is a retaining wall in Gordon’s Bay that simply toppled over. It was under-designed and built to fail unfortunately a year or two down the road. Now the cost is to demolish, remove, design to the proper specification, and build. The saving derived at the time probably amounted to 25%. But now it's very costly to remove and replace.

THE FAILED RETAINING WALL HOLING BACK A BANK OF 2,500 HIGH, BUILT FROM TWO BRICK SKINS.

FOUNDATION WAS 150 THICK AND 600MM WIDE OF POOR QUALITY “CONCRETE” – ALL HAD TO BE REMOVED TO MAKE WAY FOR PROPER STRUCTURE

THIS IS THE BACK OF THE WALL WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN WATERPROOFED WITH TORCHON AND AN AGRICULTURAL DRAIN TO CATCH AND DIVERT WATER BEHIND THE WALL.
